Roundabout Closure at ELSP and SE 43rd St - August 26 - 28th

This is a City of Issaquah project.

The City of Issaquah awarded the contract for the East Lake Sammamish Parkway (ELSP) and SE 43rd Street Roundabout Revisions project to the contractor Northwest Cascade. Construction activities began the first week of June. Work is projected to take approximately two months to complete.

August 26 - 28th Closure: The roundabout closure will begin on Friday, August 26 at approximately 7 p.m. for striping of the intersection and repairing damaged concrete. The roundabout is scheduled to open by 9 a.m. on Sunday, August 28. During these closures, the intersection will be completely closed to all users, and a detour is provided by the City of Sammamish. Work will be allowed both during the day and night. This is the final closure of the roundabout.

Plan to take alternate routes if possible and expect traffic delays. A detour map can be found below.

More information on this project and the Project Manager's contact information can be found on the City of Issaquah's website, linked here.

New School Zone Flashers on Issaquah - Pine Lake Road

The city is in the process of defining a reduced speed school zone by installing three new school zone flashing signs on Issaquah-Pine Lake Road near Cedar Trails Elementary to alert drivers of walking students and the reduced speed of 20mph during drop off and pick up times. The exhibit below shows their locations. The city plans to have these running at the end of August when schools start. Drivers should slow down and use caution when these signs are flashing.

Sidewalk Reconstruction on 228th Ave SE

The City of Sammamish will be tearing down and reconstructing the sidewalks of specific areas along 228th Ave SE in order to comply with the American Disabilities Act standards for intersection curb ramps and sidewalk width. The limits of this work are from SE 24th St (by Discovery Elementary School) to Issaquah-Pine Lake Rd SE. The specific areas of work are as follows:

  • Eastbound SE 24th St, concluding at Audubon Park Dr SE
  • The entrance to Discovery Elementary School
  • The intersection of 228th Ave SE and SE 24th St
  • Southbound 228th Ave SE along Pine Lake Park

This work will begin Monday, August 8 and will be completed in November 2022. The hours of work are 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Due to the nature of this work, the sidewalks along the area of work will be closed and pedestrian detour routes will be provided and indicated with signage. During certain portions of this work, 228th Ave SE will be reduced to one lane of traffic. Reader boards are posted to alert drivers and pedestrians of this work. Pedestrians should expect delays and plan their routes accordingly. Drivers should use caution. Below is a map with the specific areas of work indicated in green.

East Lake Sammamish Trail South Segment B Stage 2 Construction

This is a King County Trail Project

The King County East Lake Sammamish Trail (ELST) South Segment B Phase 2 will begin construction in Spring 2022. All private property owners adjacent to the trail will be able to access their property during construction with limited exceptions for safety reasons. For example, access may be limited, or neighbors may experience short delays during major material unloading or wall construction along a lane. King County plans to incorporate flaggers/spotters on site on site to help pedestrians safely access their properties during daytime.

  • Project Start Point: Approximately 1,350’ south of the intersection of SE 8th Street / East Lake Sammamish Parkway SE (STA 371+59)
  • Project End Point: Approximately 750’ south of the intersection of NE 16th Street / East Lake Sammamish Parkway SE (STA 468+00)

The last uncompleted ELST section, the 1.9-miles from Pine Lake Creek to Inglewood Hill Road, will be closed for construction beginning in early June 2022 until December 2023.

For additional project information, please visit the project website: www.kingcounty.gov/eastlakesammamishtrail. You may also contact the project team directly by email at ELST@kingcounty.gov or by calling the project hotline at 1-888-668-4886.

Drilling and Excavating in Pacific Estates Neighborhood

Puget Sound Energy completed the drilling and excavating on NE 22nd St and 228th Ave NE in the Pacific Estates neighborhood for a remediation power cable replacement. Restoration is ongoing.

Puget Sound Energy Natural Gas Project

Crews from Puget Sound Energy and InfraSource will be working to replace portions of the existing underground natural gas main with new, corrosion-resistant plastic pipe.

Gas Main work in the Tree Farm Neighborhood is ongoing. Work will take place between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Work on NE 8th St is ongoing. Work on NE 8th St. will take place Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Traffic control flaggers and signs will guide vehicles and pedestrians safely around the project areas and there will be lane closures and revisions as crews move along the project route. The bus stop on NE 8th St will be moved 250 ft. west of its current location. Some street parking will be impacted. “No parking” signs will be placed in the areas prior to work beginning.

Drivers should expect delays and use caution. Impacted streets are NE 8th St, NE 7th Ct, 237th Pl NE, NE 6th Ct, NE 6th St, NE 4th Pl, 238th Ave NE and 239th Ave NE, Sammamish. See maps of work below for more details.

Changes to SE 32nd and 244th Ave SE Intersection

The city has changed the intersection of SE 32nd and 244th Ave SE into an all-way stop control due to traffic concurrency issues. New stop signs and stop bars were placed on the approach legs of SE 32nd, in addition to the existing stop sign on 244th. This change took place the week of August 15th and advance warning message signs are in place. Drivers should slow down use caution with this new traffic control change.

Striping and Thermoplastic Markings Maintenance Work

The City will be performing striping and thermoplastic maintenance work on the city’s arterials throughout the summer to refresh existing fog lines, center lines, and thermoplastic markings. Thermoplastic markings include arrows, stop bars, bike symbols, and other markings in the roadway. The arterials being targeted are shown in the map below. This type of work requires dry road pavement so dry weather days are being targeted. Drivers should expect delays and use caution.

East Lake Sammamish Trail South Segment B Stage 1 Construction

The King County East Lake Sammamish Trail (ELST) South Segment B Phase 1 continues with construction. There will be traffic impacts related to the closure of the gravel surface trail segment which causes the re-routing of cyclists and pedestrians to East Lake Sammamish Parkway (ELSP). Additionally, there will be construction traffic on ELSP.

  • Project Start Point: Intersection of SE 33rd / East Lake Sammamish Shore Lane Drive SE
  • Project End Point: Approximately 900' south of the intersection of SE 8th Street / East Lake Sammamish Parkway SE

Notices for construction activity outside of the City of Sammamish:

Road maintenance on 244th Ave NE near Redmond Fall City Rd, (SR-202)

This is a King County Local Services project.

King County Road Services Division is prioritizing 244th Ave NE near SR-202 to receive snow and ice pre-treatment. Due to a slide occurring in winter 2020, both lanes of 244th Ave NE are narrowed until the impacted support wall can be repaired. The repair of the support wall is expected to begin in Summer 2023. Soil samples yielded unexpected data, which caused the design phase to be extended. King County Road Services Division has a 24/7 Road Helpline - (206) 477-8100. More information on this project can be found linked here.
