Road Projects for the Week of May 8 - 14, 2021
Utility Work on 238th Way SE and Issaquah Pine-Lake Road
SEFNCO, a sub-contractor for Comcast will be doing utility work at the intersection of 238th Way SE and Issaquah-Pine Lake Road. Work will start on Tuesday, May 11th and finish by Friday, May 14th. Work hours will be between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. each day with traffic directed by police officers through the intersection. Message boards have been up since Tuesday, 5/4 notifying residents that delays should be expected.
Speed Limit Reinstated to 35 mph on 212th Ave SE effective May 3rd, 2021
The speed limit on 212th Ave SE between SE 12th Street and SE 18th Street will be reinstated to 35 mph effective May 3rd, 2021. Heavy rains in February of 2020 caused flooding of Ebright Creek which expedited the erosion of the gabion wall supporting the roadway. In the summer of 2020 out of an abundance of caution, the speed limit was reduced from 35 mph to 25 mph to reduce any excess forces or vibration that might expedite the erosion of the subgrade. The City hired a Geotechnical Engineer that produced a report and concluded that the difference in the speed limit between 25 mph and 35 mph does not significantly increase the rate of decay or erosion of the roadway subgrade. Therefore, the speed limit will be reinstated to 35 mph effective May 3rd, 2021. This area will continue to require observation and maintenance until a permanent solution can be assessed and implemented.
Ebright Creek Fish Passage Project Construction starting in June
Beginning in June this project will start construction to restore the Ebright Creek crossing at East Lake Sammamish Parkway. The project will remove the existing culvert pipes and replace them with a fully fish passable box culvert, with the goals of improving stream habitat and fish passage to support Kokanee salmon and other fish species. Most of the work is anticipated to be complete by September 2021. During construction, drivers can expect intermittent lane closures to allow for utility relocation and site preparation. Later this summer there will be up to a 3 week closure of East Lake Sammamish Parkway at Ebright Creek to allow for installation of the box culvert. Additional notifications, message boards, and signs will be posted to detour traffic around the closure. Please visit the project page on Connect Sammamish to learn more.
228th Avenue Curb Ramp Retrofit and Catch Basin Repairs
The City of Sammamish’s contractor has begun road work on 228th Avenue to retrofit curb ramps, install concrete catch basin aprons and install irrigation sleeve crossings from SE 8th St to NE 8th St. Next week, the contractor plans to finish all the irrigation crossing and may begin exposing catch basins for repair. This work is in preparation for the City resurfacing 228th Avenue in 2022 and benefits the City’s ADA Transition Plan goal of retrofitting all public facilities to meet the current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards. Lane closure hours through the work zone will be between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Traffic will be merged to one lane through the work zone and steel plates are anticipated to be on the roadway overnight.
Issaquah Fall City Road
The closure between 247th Place SE and Klahanie Dr. SE is open as of 2:30 p.m. on April 16, 2021. There are many people, businesses and organizations to thank and acknowledge. Take a look at the ceremonial ribbon cutting video with community acknowledgements. *Safety Reminder – Please observe the contractor’s “Sidewalk Closed” and “No Trespassing” signs at all times.
- On Friday April 16th, the roadway opened up to the public between 247th PL SE and Klahanie. During work hours the public will still encounter short term (day time) lane closures as necessary to complete punchlist work. One of the significant items of work to occur after the opening of the roadway will be third party utilities taking a lane to finish installation of their vaults, lids, and make their necessary connections.
- By May 1st, all punchlist work is schedule to be completed and traffic control will not be on the road until the contractor returns in June to begin the excavation for the stream mitigation work. We anticipate the third party utilities will be competed with this work by May 1, though this date is subject to change.
Daytime project work hours are 7:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Saturday work hours: 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
