What's the Current Protocol for Building Inspections? FAQs

The City of Sammamish is in the process analyzing the way we conduct our building inspections as the community contends with the COVID-19 outbreak. Though this process will be updated, we wanted to answer some of the most frequently asked questions about our procedures as they currently stand.

Q: Are residential and electrical inspections continuing?

A: Yes, when social distancing can be met, except for Occupied Heated Space Inspections (OHSI), which are currently on hold pending launch of new program for video/virtual inspection.

Q: Are they continuing on the exterior and interior of buildings?

A: Yes, inspections for exteriors and for interiors of new construction (not occupied space) or open garage inspections continue, except OHSI, which are currently on hold. All inspections must maintain social distances.

Q: Are inspections of remodels taking place?

A: Yes, unless they are OHSI, and as long as social distance can be maintained.

Q: How are inspections proceeding? Any special COVID-19 precautions our members should anticipate?

A: For now, people requesting inspections should consider where they will place themselves during the inspection, so that we can maintain social distances. We are working hard to set up a new program while still serving customers, and we ask for patience during this unprecedented scenario.

Q: Does anyone even want an inspection right now?

A: We've actually seen a slight increase in inspection activity, and we're glad to be able to continue meeting the needs of our residents during this time.
