Chapter 7A.17: Swimming

7A.17.010 Obey rules.
Swimmers must obey all rules. All persons using City park areas, associated marine areas, beaches and water resources must obey all posted beach rules, lifeguard rules, dock rules, instructions of lifeguards, and/or instructions from other City employees. Any person violating provisions of this rule shall have committed a civil offense.

7A.17.020 Designated areas only.
Designated swimming areas are marked with buoys, log booms, signs, or other markers clearly designating the boundaries of such areas. Swimmers are prohibited from swimming into or out of designated swimming areas when lifeguards are on duty. Swimming is only permitted within designated swimming areas at City park areas, associated marine areas and beaches. Swimming is allowed in Sammamish Landing Park only on the south dock. Any person violating provisions of this rule shall have committed a civil offense.

7A.17.030 Floatation devices.
Floatation devices are allowed only at lifeguards’ discretion in the shallow end of a designated swim area. No floatation devices are allowed in the deep end of a swimming area. Swimmers must stay within designated swimming areas when using floatation devices. Any person violating provisions of this rule shall have committed a civil offense.

7A.17.040 False alarm of drowning prohibited.
False alarm of drowning is prohibited. No person may give or transmit a false signal or false alarm of drowning in any manner. Any person violating provisions of this rule shall have committed a civil offense.

7A.17.050 Swimming, sunbathing and scuba diving in boat launches prohibited.
No person may swim, sunbathe or scuba dive in any designated boat launching areas. Any person violating provisions of this rule shall have committed a civil offense.

7A.17.060 Interfering with lifeguard duties.
Activities in any City of Sammamish park areas, associated park areas, or beaches are prohibited if they endanger other beach users or interfere, distract or obstruct lifeguards from performing their responsibilities. When circumstances can safely permit games, such games will be conducted only with the consent of a lifeguard or other Department employee. Any person violating provisions of this rule shall have committed a criminal misdemeanor.
