Consultation has concluded

Summary

The City of Sammamish is updating rules across the City’s park system to encourage positive behavior in parks and trails, keep public places safe and welcoming, and maintain the high quality of maintenance and cleanliness for all park properties. Since the City's incorporation there have been few updates to the City Code related to park use, and as a result, the City has been facing difficulties with responding to issues that impact our parks which we see today.

In order to make these changes, the City is clarifying and modernizing existing laws, adding new rules to address current and unforeseen issues, and removing regulations and language that are no longer relevant. The changes would repeal and replace the current rules with a new section in the City Code (SMC Title 7A: Parks and Recreation) and include 21 new chapters arranged by topic. Through this process the City worked with staff across multiple departments, researched examples from other cities, and solicited feedback from the citizen Parks and Recreation Commission in order to understand what changes are meaningful, manageable, and critical for creating a safe and enjoyable environment for Sammamish residents across the City’s park system. Residents also have the opportunity to provide feedback that will help City staff evaluate and consider changes being made to City park rules. More information about the City’s efforts in updating park rules can be found in the public meeting summaries of the Parks and Recreation Commission:
