Environment & Sustainability
The City of Sammamish is committed to protecting its natural environment and promoting sustainability through initiatives aimed at reducing the city's carbon footprint and preserving its unique natural resources.
Heat Pump Rebates
Everyone in our community deserves the benefits of a healthy, energy-efficient and comfortable home. Energy Smart Eastside (ESE) is dedicated to helping residents access the benefits of heat pumps. Visit Energy Smart Eastside's website to learn more.
Benefits of heat pumps
- They provide heating and air conditioning in one system.
- They filter indoor air. (Great for summer smoke season)
- They’re energy efficient & electric.
- They reduce heating bills.
- They reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
- They offer consistent, even temperature.
Join the Green Power Challenge
The City of Sammamish is partnering with Puget Sound Energy to increase participation in PSE's Green Power program. Green Power offers a simple and affordable way to match up to 100% of your electricity use with localized renewable energy like wind and solar. Sign up today!
The goal of the city-wide challenge is to enroll 100 new residents and businesses in the program by December 2026. If the goal is reached, PSE will provide the City of Sammamish with $10,000 toward a new solar panel project on a community building. Together, we can support local renewable energy sources, reduce emissions, and make progress towards the City’s Climate Action Plan targets. This is your chance to make a real difference in Sammamish's energy future.
Why choose Green Power?
- Reduce your carbon footprint. Any level you choose to enroll in, you’re doing right by the planet.
- No contracts or installation. Whether you're a renter or homeowner, there’s no need to install or maintain any equipment.
- Support local projects and community organizations. PSE is dedicated to finding renewable energy projects close to home and funding solar installations for nonprofits, tribal entities and community organizations.
Regional Partnerships
Eastside Climate Partnership
The Eastside Climate Partnership (ECP) formed in 2023 and is made up of the Cities of Bellevue, Issaquah, Kirkland, Mercer Island, Redmond, and Sammamish. The City of Sammamish signed the Interlocal Agreement in 2024. The ECP works collaboratively to create programs that reduce regional sources of climate pollution and advance collective sustainability. Areas of joint programming by two or more participating ECP jurisdictions include:
- A regional, coordinated heat pump program through the Energy Smart Eastside program.
- This program provides education and incentives for residential households, affordable housing, and adult family homes to install energy efficient electric heat pumps. The program plans to expand to additional electric appliance incentives in the future.
- Increasing access to solar for eastside residents through Solarize Eastside. (Program enrollment ended July 4, 2025)
- A nonprofit and City-sponsored program that reduces costs and simplifies the solar installation process:
🏡 Free home solar assessments
☀️ Discounted pricing through group purchasing
🛠️ Vetted local installers
⚡ Made-in-Washington solar equipment
📅 Support from a solar education non-profit
- A nonprofit and City-sponsored program that reduces costs and simplifies the solar installation process:
- Preparation of greenhouse gas emissions inventories using standardized methodology for our communities and municipal operations.
- These inventories support our communities in understanding where progress has been made and provides guidance for where to focus climate action efforts in the future.
- Information sharing on municipal fleet electrification progress and use-case scenarios in addition to coordination on local and regional electric vehicle charging stations.
King County Cities Climate Collaboration (K4C)
The City of Sammamish is part of the King County-Cities Climate Collaboration (K4C), an innovative partnership between King County and over 20 additional partners – including cities and the Port of Seattle - to coordinate and enhance the effectiveness of local climate and sustainability action.
Sammamish joined the K4C in 2015 and signed the original K4C Joint Commitments that same year. The K4C Joint Commitments were refreshed in late 2019, and Sammamish also signed the updated K4C Joint Commitments. K4C partners work together to reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions by sustainably increasing mobility, investing in renewable energy, promoting clean energy use in buildings and vehicles, and expanding farm and forest protection.
